Stand Against Racism 2010

Friday April 30, 2010
09:00AM - 09:00PM

The YWCAs of Princeton and Trenton warmly invite you to partner with us by becoming a Participating Site of the Stand Against Racism, our annual event which this year will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010. Our goal is to raise awareness that racism still exists in our communities and that it can no longer be ignored or tolerated. Our strength is in numbers—and that’s why we need you to stand with us!

We are reaching out to all kinds of groups in the area—families, corporations, schools, hospitals, houses of worship, government agencies, and many others—urging them to join us. Hosting your own Stand Against Racism is simple: on April 30, you will gather together your family, students, staff, clients, or colleagues for an anti-racism event or activity. It could be 15 minutes long or several hours long, and follow any number of formats. Perhaps you’ll read an inspirational poem or join in song. Perhaps you’ll visit a local soup kitchen to donate a few hours of hands-on help. Only two things matter here. First, that you hold whatever sort of gathering you feel is most appropriate to your organization and, second, that you and your students, staff, clients, or colleagues band together in denouncing the latent (and sometimes explicit) racism that continues to fester in our society.

Our two YWCAs launched this project together in 2008 and have been pleased to see it grow into a national event. This year, we will be joined by more than 60 YWCAs in the country, each of which will reach out to its own community members in order to build a healthy list of Participating Sites located all across America. If you join with us on April 30, we anticipate that you will be one of approximately 2,000 groups that, in total, will draw together some 250,000 individuals in taking an active Stand Against Racism.

Being a Participating Site of the Stand Against Racism couldn’t be easier, as we will provide you with all the materials you will need. And there is no cost whatsoever to participate. To get started, just visit www.StandAgainstRacism.org and sign up by April 16, 2010.

We hope we can count on your support, as this movement is crucial to the health and vitality of our communities. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Marialanna Lee, Director of Mission Advancement, at (609) 497-2100 x307.
